Prevalence of cholecystitis in gallbladder histology following clinical pancreatitis: cohort study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cholelithiasis occurs in 10% of the population, most commonly caused by gallstone formation from bile salt cholesterol hypersaturation. Common presentations include cholecystitis and pancreatitis, yet these two gallstone diseases rarely seem to happen simultaneously. Gallstone pancreatitis occurs when gallstones escape from the gallbladder and become lodged within the common bile duct causing back pressure onto proximal organs. If gallstones are the aetiology of pancreatitis, cholecystectomy is performed. This prevents further gallstones migration rather than treating cholecystitis. In such patients, what does the gallbladder histology show and what is its relevance? The only previous study found 39.6% of gallbladders in gallstone pancreatitis demonstrated cholecystitis on histology.

A Case of Concomitant Perforated Acute Cholecystitis and Pancreatitis
Introduction. Concomitant cholecystitis and gallstone pancreatitis is an infrequent clinical encounter, reported sparsely in the literature. Concurrent acute cholecystitis and pancreatitis complicated by gall bladder perforation has not been reported before. Presentation of Case. We report a 39-year-old female presenting with concomitant cholecystitis and acute pancreatitis, complicated by gall...
متن کاملMicrolithiasis of the gallbladder: role of endoscopic ultrasonography in patients with idiopathic acute pancreatitis.
OBJECTIVES Causes may be found in most cases of acute pancreatitis, however no etiology is found by clinical, biological and imaging investigations in 30% of these cases. Our objective was to evaluate results from endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) for diagnosis of gallbladder microlithiasis in patients with unexplained (idiopathic) acute pancreatitis. METHODS Thirty-six consecutive non-alcohol...
متن کاملImmunoglobulin G4-related sclerosing cholecystitis presenting as gallbladder cancer: a case report.
Immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related sclerosing disease is a systemic inflammatory syndrome, and an understanding of its characteristics is currently evolving. IgG4-related cholecystitis is a manifestation of IgG4-related sclerosing disease in the gallbladder. This case report describes the clinical, radiographic, and histopathological findings in a young male patient who presented with a synchrono...
متن کاملInfected Peri-Pancreatic Necrosis Causing Gallbladder Necrosis by Direct Extension
Acute acalculous cholecystitis may develop in patients suffering from necrotizing pancreatitis. Conversely, acute pancreatitis may complicate acute gallbladder disease. We present a case that lends support to the existence of another possibility: gallbladder necrosis caused by direct extension of the necrotizing pancreatitic process.

IgG4-related sclerosing disease is an established disease entity with characteristic clinicopathological features. Recently, the association between IgG4-related sclerosing disease and the risk of malignancies has been suggested. IgG4-related autoimmune pancreatitis with pancreatic cancer has been reported. Further, a few cases of extraocular malignant lymphoma in patients with IgG4-related scl...
